SCELETIUM

[ Pronounced Skuh-lee-tee-um ]

Sceletium, our hero ingredient, also known as Kanna and Kougoed, is a succulent plant native to South Africa. It has a long and rich history among the indigenous San people, who have used it for centuries for its medicinal properties. Since then, Sceletium has been well studied for its anxiety-reducing and calming effects. The plant’s key active component, the mesembrine alkaloid, acts similarly to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), enhancing serotonin function in the brain to promote emotional balance and relieve stress.

Sceletium’s story is one of ancient wisdom meeting modern science. In the spirit of recognizing and preserving indigenous knowledge, we have allocated the South African San Council, who represent the San and Nama people, an equity stake in the business—a first of its kind.

MUTI

[ Pronounced MOO TEE ]

Muti is a traditional term from Southern Africa that refers to natural medicines derived from plants, herbs, and other indigenous resources used for healing and wellbeing. Rooted in African culture, Muti has been an integral part of holistic health practices for centuries, offering remedies for both physical and spiritual ailments. The term originates from the Zulu word “umuthi,” meaning tree, symbolizing nature’s healing power.

At NuMuti (New Muti), we draw inspiration from this rich heritage, blending ancient African wisdom with modern science to create functional beverages that optimize mental and emotional wellbeing, honouring the tradition of Muti in every can.
